About Me

I’m an artist and a teacher. I trained as a potter, further developed my artistic abilities, ideas and communication skills as a community artist and then worked as a freelance artist in schools and a public artist in the Worcestershire and West Midlands area. I took a detour for 10 years to teach art full time at both primary and secondary level in mainstream and special education (SEMH).

I am now back as an artist working on commissions in the public realm. I use whatever media is most suitable for the artwork, ranging from mosaics to  steel inlay, from engraved stone to digitally printed window films and banners.

I love working in my visual journals, practising drawing and making note of the things I see around me.  As with any skill, drawing becomes rusty quickly if not practised, as does the ability to really look and see properly as an artist, so keeping a regular journal as well as more project specific sketchbooks/workbooks is important to me.

I really enjoy looking inside other peoples sketchbooks, and hope you will enjoy looking at mine as I continue to post selections and galleries of my images here.

  1. Took me ages to work out how to leave you a message! Just to say that I love the interior with the sofa and bookshelves it’s my favourite. Don’t think it’s overworked (although I don’t really know nothing), sometimes more is more!

Also viewing this on my phone is a pain, not sure if it’s the layout or the phone!

  2. Hi, Alison: I haven’t left a comment prior to this, but I do read each of your posts and I love your work. I recently received a Liebster Award from a fellow small blogger, Snehal, which is a way of bloggers of smaller blogs to recognize each other, and then we are to pass on the award to another. I’m recognizing your blog for a Liebster Award because I enjoy seeing your posts in my Reader. You can see what this whole Liebster thing is about by reading my latest post https://artwewonderful.com/2016/06/11/paying-it-forward-with-the-liebster-award/ – and if you don’t want to participate, no worries. I wanted to say thanks and I look forward to your next post!
